Viking Shetland Pony Show 2022

Saturday 20th August saw a day packed full of Performance classes and fun classes. A fantastic entry made for a long day for all, but so super to see such a big line up especially in the Lead Rein Class. The future of the Shetland Pony certainly looks bright. Sunday 21st saw 3 Inhand Rings, with the 2 day event held to celebrate the 50 years of the PBSA, which should have been during Covid Lockdown. We would like to thank our 4 judges, S Cozens, T Nielsen, C Seipp & E Warren. The Overall Supreme Champion was Hollydell Hemera a 3yr old Standard Black Filly bred and exhibited by the Hollydell Stud, with the Reserve Supreme going to the Miniature Yeld Mare Lignite Dusky Beauty exhibited by the Robin's Brae Stud. A huge thank you to the Cunningsburgh Showfield, Show Secretary Abigail Robertson, all the stewards, first aiders and competitors

Viking Show 2019

The 28th Viking Shetland Pony Show was held on Sunday 18th August 2019 at the Cunningsburgh Showfield. This year’s judges were Jem Roberts in the Standard Ring, Jane Barry in the Performance Ring and Kay Gibb in the Small Ponies Ring. A lovely relaxed day was had by all, with the weather being favourable for the duration of the day. The organisers Kirsty, Sheena and Amanda decided to introduce a new class to the schedule this year, a long reining class. This was held at the start of the day to allow any pony/exhibitor to enter also allowing for a big contingent of spectators. A great success with seven entries forward on the day, with Nina Fraser and Ulverscroft Midnight Red coming out on top. Many thanks to the Filska Stud for sponsoring this class, and their generous prize money donation. Huge congratulations to Amanda Slater of the Breckenlea Stud for winning Supreme Champion with the handsome black with white socks miniature stallion Kerswell Starbuck. Also congratulations to the Reserve Supreme Champion Arnum of Auckhorn a black standard stallion exhibited by Allan Manson of the Hestigarth Stud. A great show of super quality ponies turned out to a high standard. Entries were up on last year with a total of 185 entries, and great to see some new faces, and some return to the showring who have not shown for a while. Massive thanks must go to all judges, stewards, Abigail Robertson for office duties on the day, sponsors, exhibitors and organisers.

Viking Show 2017

The 26th Viking Shetland Pony Show was held on Sunday 13th August at th e Cunningsburgh Showfield, which proved to be an excellent venue for a second year. The early rain soon cleared away leaving the showfield bathed in sunshine. There was strong competition in the performance ring which boasted high entries in every class, with the other two rings also having good entries in most classes. With the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society Breed Show coming to Shetland in 2019, it was great to see high quality ponies being turned out across the three rings. Andrea Foster, Cornwall, was judging in the standard ring and Carol Hodder, Somerset, in the miniature ring while Rachel Bown, Buckinghamshire, was judging the performance ring. The three judges then came together to judge the Supreme Championship, where they chose Clothie Night Muscari, a black gelding bred by the Clothie Shetland Pony Stud, Aberdeen, now owned and ridden by Emma Anderson, Gulberwick. The reserve went to Holy Av Bergli, a black yeld mare bred by the Bergli Stud in Shetland. A huge thank you to the hard working ring and gate stewards: Hannah Budge, Melanie Henderson, Melody Goodlad, Susan Goodlad, Leighton Polson and Vaila Stevenson. A special mention has to go to Helen Thomson and Arianne Fraser who kept on top of the results as they came flying in and had everything recorded ready for the trophy presentation. Thanks also to all who helped set up the field and attended the show. Particular thanks to our Ring Sponsors S J Rendall, Anderson & Co & A Jarmson (Shetland) Ltd and Show Sponsor Harbro Ltd.

Viking Show 2010

Lots of crossed fingers and a couple of sun dances later despite a touch and go start to the day the Viking Show was again blessed with dry weather and even a bit of sunshine in the afternoon for the championships! The competitors and spectators were out in force and there were a good number of entries across the three rings, standard, miniature and performance. This year Mrs Carolyn Pleass judged the Performance Classes. She thoroughly enjoyed her day of judging and commented on the quality of the ponies, riders and handlers forward. Nigel Vale judged the standard ring and had a ‘very challenging but highly enjoyable time’ judging the very large broodmare class. Corinna Seipp didn’t have as many ponies to judge as the miniature ring has seen in previous years but it was case of quality not quantity as the Best Miniature went on to take Supreme Champion at the end of the day. Supreme Champion of the day was Watzo of Berry, a chestnut miniature stallion owned and bred by the Berry Stud but shown for them on the day by Tore Skarpnord from Norway. Watzo of Berry qualified for the Championship first winning the stallion class and then Overall Miniature champion. Clothie Nightcap was overall ridden champion and then went on to take Reserve Overall Champion with his lead rein rider, Melody Goodlad. The Viking Show organisers wish to thank everyone who has helped in any way to make this year’s event possible. Without the assistance and support of you all the show could not enjoy its continued success.
