Viking Shetland Pony Show 2026
Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August saw the 35th annual Viking Shetland Pony Show held at the Cunningsburgh Showfield. The Helen Thomson Memorial Fun Day was held on the Saturday and In Hand and Performance classes held on the Sunday. There was a great turnout of exhibitors from the length and breadth of Shetland. The Pony Breeders of Shetland Association would like to thank their judges who travelled from across the UK to officiate. Lucy Smith and Sue Bearcroft, friends of Helen Thomson, travelled up from England to spectate and also to judge the classes on the fun day, Mary Davenport from Shropshire judged the Standard Pony ring, Lisa Wilson from Dollar judged the Small Pony Ring and Nick True from Wales judged the Performance Pony Ring. Competition was fierce across the weekend with record entries on the fun day which was excellent to see. On the fun day Ruby Polson from Whalsay was Lead Rein Points Champions, Freya Polson from Whalsay was Novice Points Champion and Fay Emms from England was Open Points Champion. Overall Supreme Champion on the Sunday was awarded to Sheena Anderson with Merkisayre Juniper, a 16 year old Standard Mare who was the Champion from the Standard ring. Reserve Overall Supreme Champion went to Amanda Manson with Breckenlea Samira, a six year old Small Mare who was the Champion from the Small Pony ring.
The Show could not have happened without the help and support from the fabulous stewards and helpers – Abigail Robertson, Anya Risk, Ayla Leask, Gemma Irvine, Helen Dickson, Katrena Anderson, Melanie Henderson, Melody Goodlad and Susan Goodlad, so huge thanks and appreciation must go to them.
